Rainbow’s End

I met Lauren the summer after high school graduation when we were both working the Eastview Drive-In concession stand. Our manager, Ralph, made us wear these bland, white uniforms but she’d always add something to hers like a red scarf or, sometimes, rainbow suspenders, and she always got away with it `cause she was so damn cute. We’d drive out in my Chevy and stay up all night sometimes just holding each other closely in the back. That was before the evening Ralph told me to fetch the smokes from his car. Her rainbow suspenders were on his back seat.

True to life. I bet Ralph didn’t even smoke. Crap, I hate life.
